I love essential oils! When I was introduced to essential oils, I had an appointment with my naturopathic doctor and after the appointment, the receptionist mentioned to me that their office had just got in new essential oils and she wanted to know if I would like to try one. She handed me the essential oil of Peppermint. She mentioned that the oil was considered ” pure and organic and the oil could be used in three ways.
The following ways that essential oils can be used are:
Aromatically
Topically
Dietary*
AROMATICALLY-
In using oils aromatically, it is the act of using oils with a diffuser. The method of using a diffuser is used instead of using an incense burner. The difference between the two is that a diffuser must be used with water.
In using a diffuser, water is added for the diffuser to be used proficiently. Tap or Distilled water is added and then an essential oil or essential blend. In using a single essential oil blend, since the oil is concentrated and potent, it is best to use 3-5 oil drops in a diffuser. Single oils can be used in a diffuser.
Five examples of essential oils that can be used are:
1. Lavender,
2. Roman Chamomile,
3. Bergamont,
4. Cedarwood,
5. Jasmine.
Using essential oils in a diffuser helps in releasing scented chemical molecules in the air to aid in the beautiful aroma in the atmosphere of the essential oil used.
I especially love to use a diffuser at night at bedtime. Using oils in a diffuser before bed helps to relax the body and mind, to prepare for a good night’s sleep. The following are diffuser blends to use for every room in your house. For fun, select one blend to use weekly.
To use essential oils aromatically, stretchy diffuser bracelets can also be worn. Oils can be applied to specific beads to enhance the pleasant smelling aroma of the oil for the wearer. Inhaling essential oils stimulates the olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell, including the nose and the brain. Oils used in this way is applied to palms and rubbed together to enhance the scent. www.medicalnewstoday.com
TOPICALLY-
In using a single oil topically, such as sandalwood, 3-5 drops are placed in the palm and applied to the pulse points of the wrist, arm, and/or back of the neck or bottom of feet. In applying oil on the bottom of the feet, the essential oil permeates the cell walls, which allows the benefits of the oil to enter the bloodstream at a quicker rate.
Essential oils are applied topically to soothe the body after exercise, or applied to tired muscles to help wind down and prepare for a good night’s sleep. Topical use of the oil involves experiencing the fragrance on your wrists, palms, or behind your ears.
In using topically, essential oils can also be used in a perfume blend. In addition to cutting down on the number of toxins you are putting on your body, using essential oils in place of perfumes allows you to receive the benefits that the essential oils provide. www.monq.com

DIETARY–
In some cases, essential oils can be used dietary as well. Now, I know as you read this, you may have some concerns about using oils in this way. As we go on with our daily activities, we at times are not aware that we take in oils internally daily but, it may not be realized. Essential Oils are distilled, steamed, and cold-pressed. The methods of making essential oils from plants vary depending on the species of the plant. Herbal compounds can be formed into a powdered constitution or by nature in its original form of plants or leaves.
For example, herbs such as Cinnamon, Oregano, Basil, Cumin, Black Pepper, Thyme, can be purchased in a powdered or pure essential oil food-grade classification.
In using essential oils internally, caution should be noted. Some essential oils should not be taken internally. There is no ruling consistent regulation of essential oils. Some store brought essential oils labeled “pure” or “organic” are just the opposite. Some oils are adulterated, mixed with other chemicals and synthetics; to lower the quality and the price. In taking essential oils internally, it is suggested to use caution and essential oils shouldn’t be used internally. Some essential oils are considered FDA-compliant, but not approved by the FDA. These particular essential oil brands are labeled as GRAS, “Generally Recognized as Safe for Human Consumption”, FDA Notification. Research should be done to discover what oils are labeled as safe to consume. Some brands make it easy to become aware of these oils by adding the GRAS”Dietary Supplemental Facts” Label on the bottle. In seeing this label, the consumer becomes more aware and comfortable in knowing that the oil and/or supplement is considered safe for human consumption.
As mentioned earlier, peppermint essential oil was the first oil that I was introduced to and peppermint oil can be used internally. But, remember to Inhaling essential oils stimulates the olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell, including the nose and the brain. In using essential oils internally, use caution, and remember to read labels, looking for oils of “food-grade and not the cosmetic grade. Also, look for the GRAS Dietary Supplemental label listed on the bottle.
